You Need
Materials
- Roughly 4m of fabric (this will depend on the size of your ottoman — you’ll need enough for the top panel, plus enough for the ruffle, which should be about 2× the measurement around the ottoman)
- Square ottoman
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- Fabric scissors
- Rotary cutter
- Cutting mat
- Pins or fabric clips
- Ruler
- Fabric marker
Instructions
1
For this tutorial, you’ll want to grab a square ottoman to get started. Start by ironing your fabric.
2
Drape your fabric over the ottoman so it hangs evenly on all sides and the stripes (if any) are straight.
3
Cut around the ottoman top, leaving a few extra inches hanging past the edges so you have room to work. I cut the fabric off about mid way above the base.
4
Pinch in the corner of the fabric on all four corners to create seams.
5
Pin that corner pinch in place so the fabric stays snug and squared. Carefully slide the pinned fabric off the ottoman without disturbing the pins.
6
Sew down each pinned corner seam, starting at the bottom and sewing up toward the top. Trim off the excess corner fabric. Turn the cover right side out and test fit it back on the ottoman. If the fit looks good, press the corner seams flat.
7
Finish the bottom edge for the ruffle by following the round ottoman tutorial instructions, then attach the ruffle using the techniques shown in that tutorial.
