You Need
Materials
- Fabric of your choosing (approx 1m or 1 yard)
- Thin Batting or cushion stuffing
- Sewing Pattern (download above)
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Pins
Instructions
1
Begin by printing the sewing pattern, then carefully align and tape the pages together to create the full Christmas tree pattern.
2
Cut out the Christmas tree pattern along the outline.
3
Cut four pieces of fabric slightly larger than the pattern, and then lay out two sets of two pieces, right sides facing. Place the pattern on your fabric.
4
Trace around the pattern with a fabric marker. You may need to pin your fabric together when tracing if the fabric is slippery.
5
Pin the two fabric pieces so that they don't move when sewing and then sew around the tree shape, leaving a small opening at the bottom for stuffing. Repeat the process with the remaining two fabric pieces. It is good to sew directly onto the line. It may be difficult to sew the smaller inside corners, in which case you should 'walk' the needle by turning the hand wheel while adjusting the fabric. Take this slow. Leave a gap in the stitching at the bottom of the tree.
6
Once you are finished sewing, use your scissors to cut around the tree, leaving a small seam allowance.
7
You should now have two sewn tree pieces that look like this.
8
Use scissors to snip very closely to the stitching on the side corners.
9
Turn the trees inside out and then gently press both tree sections with an iron to remove any wrinkles or creases. Once smooth, align the two pieces and pin them together, ensuring the edges and points of the tree match up neatly.
10
With the two sections pinned together, sew a straight stitch down the center of the tree from top to bottom. This will join the two halves and help the tree hold its shape.
11
Stuff the four sections of the tree with thin batting, using a dowel or similar tool to push the filling to the top. Once filled, close the openings with an invisible hand stitch (or glue if you prefer). Add a cute velvet bow.
