This project is from the Embroidery course, but we've included a sewing pattern, so we wanted to include it here too! Included are the patterns for the Christmas Embroidery designs. If you would like to learn the embroidery stitches for these designs, we suggest enrolling in the embroidery course which has amazing projects and yu, it is such a joyful craft to pair with your sewing.
You Need
Materials
- 1m Fabric
- Scrap Fabric (for contrasting details)
- Thin Batting
- Sewing Pattern (download above)
- Embroidery thread (various colours)
- 12.5cm embroidery hoop
- Sewing machine / scissors
- DMC light effects thread
Instructions
1
Start by printing off the sewing pattern and tape the pages together to form the complete pattern.
2
Trim the pattern as required and layer two pieces each of batting, lining fabric and your main fabric. Then cut all the layers to match the pattern.
3
Combine the two parts of the stocking together with your main fabric on the inside (in this case the gingham), batting for the middle layer and then the lining on top.
4
Sew around the edge of the stocking with your sewing machine, making sure you don't sew along the top opening of the stocking
5
Carefully turn the stockings the right way around and give it a light iron.
6
For the cuff, cut two pieces of fabric 10inch x 10inch and transfer your design onto one of the cuffs.
7
Set up your hoop and embroider your design using whatever stitch types you prefer.
8
Your two cuff pieces should look something like this with your design on one panel.
9
Sew the edges of the cuff together (with the stitching on the inside).
10
Fold the cuff and place it inside the stocking with the raw edges at the top - you want your stitching to face IN towards the lining at this point
11
Carefully sew along the top edge securing the stocking and cuff together. Don't forget to add a small loop for you to hang it up.
12
Trim off any excess thread and fabric then turn the cuff over so it is on the outside.
13
Gently press the cuff seams and your stocking is ready for hanging.
