This easy project transforms a simple floating shelf into a decorative feature with a tiled surface. The result is a functional shelf that doubles as a decorative accent, adding both storage and style to your space.

Tools & Materials

  • Floating wood shelf

  • Pre-shaped square tiles

  • Thick, fast-grab tile adhesive (suitable for vertical/curved surfaces)

  • Small spatula or glue spreader (optional, for applying adhesive)

  • Grout (in your chosen colour, ideally non-sanded for small tile gaps)

  • Grout applicator or gloves (to press grout into small areas)

  • Sponge and clean water (for wiping grout off tiles)

  • Microfibre cloth (for final polish)

  • Tile sealant (to protect and finish the piece)

You Need

Tools & Materials

  • Porcelain Ceramic tiles (approx 50 for this project, I used 48mm)
  • Flexispace floating shelf
  • Tile glue
  • Tile grout
  • Sponge and water

Instructions

1
Start by laying out your tiles on the base to make sure they fit together neatly. Once you’re happy with the layout and the way the corners align (this can take a little puzzling!), secure them with tile glue. Let the glue dry fully overnight, or follow the drying time recommended on your glue.

2
The next step is grouting. Mix the grout according to the instructions, then use an applicator to work it into the gaps between the tiles.

3
Use a damp sponge to gently wipe the grout from the surface of the tiles, being careful not to pull it from the gaps. For best results, let the grout set for about 15 minutes before wiping, and repeat the process as needed until the tiles are clean. Allow the grout to dry then take a damp cloth to fully clean the grout off the tiles.
