In this project, you’ll be creating a round mirror decorated with heart-shaped tiles around the edge. It’s a fun way to experiment with playful shapes, practice neat edging, and turn a simple mirror into a unique statement piece.

Tools & Materials

  • Flat circular round mirror with no frame

  • Pre-shaped red heart mosaic tiles

  • Thick, fast-grab tile adhesive (suitable for vertical/curved surfaces)

  • Small spatula or glue spreader (optional, for applying adhesive)

  • Grout (in your chosen colour, ideally non-sanded for small tile gaps)

  • Grout applicator or gloves (to press grout into small areas)

  • Sponge and clean water (for wiping grout off tiles)

  • Microfibre cloth (for final polish)

  • Tile sealant (to protect and finish the piece)

You Need

Tools & Materials

  • Round mirror
  • MDF cut in a donut shape for the frame
  • Heart shaped mosaic tiles
  • Fine mosaic grout
  • Mosaic glue paste
  • Scraper
  • Sponge

Instructions

1
Use a jigsaw to cut the frame, to create a donut shape. Working in sections, glue down the tiles, filling the whole frame. I found it was easier to put some glue directly onto the frame, use a popsicle stick to spread it out, and then place the tiles down.

Once the glue was dry, grout with mosaic grout using a scraper.

3
Following the instructions on the packet, gently wipe away the excess grout from the surface of the tiles using a damp sponge. Start with an initial wipe to remove most of the grout, then return about 30 minutes later for a second clean-up. After 24 hours, give the tiles a final polish with a soft cloth to bring out their shine.

Once the frame was dry, glue it onto the mirror using liquid nails.
